My early background was with domestic appliances repairs which I have been involved with since 1976.
Then I branched out to incorporate commercial laundry equipment sales and service and catering equipment repairs. I came across my first Rational oven in the kitchens at 'Television South West', in Plymouth.
This began my liaison with Rational UK and was soon followed by training at their factory at Landsberg in Germany during late 1986. This was shortly after the introduction of the first Rational ovens CD5 + CD6 which were the first ever combination steam ovens.
When I first started there only were 5 ovens in the southwest, 1 in Sidmouth, 2 in Plymouth, 1 in St Ives and 1 in Padstow. My area used to incorporate Bristol, Chippenham, Swindon, Salisbury, Portsmouth and Southhampton.
With the development of the Rational oven and the fact that Rational now control over 50% of the world market in Combi Steamers and also with the increase of the all year tourist trade in the Southwest of England I now have a smaller area to cover but still manages to clock up 50,000 miles a year which equates to 200 miles per week day 52 weeks of the year.
I have been involved with the Rational oven since its early days of development, when its operation systems were a little basic compared to the computer controlled ovens of today. However, the modern ovens operate in similar ways to the early ovens so my experience spans over 21 years of technological changes.
